Thanksgiving is a great time to pull out the crayons, construction paper, glue, and scissors and get to work on some cute crafts. Homeschoolers will love the traditional turkey hand tracing, but why stop there? Why not go wild with popsicle sticks to make a turkey greeter? Do you have any spare felt lying around? You could turn those scraps into some neat turkey gloves! Create a fun fall-themed leafy bouquet of thanks? Head on over to Kaboose to check out dozens of creative craft ideas for this Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving List
There are many different ways for homeschoolers to create a Thanksgiving list. Cover the refrigerator with paper and lay out crayons nearby. Have your homeschoolers write out something that they are thankful for each day, leading up to thanksgiving. You can assign specific colors to different children so they can easily find which ones for which they’d like to give thanks. You could do this with a chalkboard or even a simple notebook.
Leafy Fun
Got a yard full of leaves? Have the homeschoolers help out this fall. If you give them a chance to run and jump in the leaves, they’ll be happy to lend a helping hand! That night, be sure to host a bonfire during which you can burn all the leaves and share hot cocoa or cider.
Family Football
Why spend Thanksgiving sitting around watching football on TV when we can get out and play a pick-up game of touch football ourselves? Invite some other families over for a tournament. The exercise you get will offset the pounds of turkey you’re about to eat!
Play a Thanksgiving Party Game
You can put a Thanksgiving twist on just about any party game. Consider Mayflower Memory:
Everyone sits in a circle. The first player says, “I am sailing on the Mayflower and I am taking Apples. The next player repeats the phrase, only instead of apples, thinks of something that begins with the letter “B”. The game continues this way until players can no longer think of words. If a player can’t contribute an item, he or she must leave the circle. The last person in the circle wins!
Be creative! Try out Duck, Duck Turkey!
